Nagy Károly Zsolt was born on 7 November 1973 in Miskolc. After completing secondary school, he trained as a photographer, then earned degrees as a Reformed pastor and as a cultural anthropologist specializing in visual culture studies. He later received his PhD from the Doctoral Programme in Communication at the University of Pécs. Between 2005 and 2019, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Ethnology of the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Since 2020, he has taught at the Reformed Theological University of Sárospatak. His scholarly identity is shaped by the complementary use of theological, anthropological, and communication-theoretical perspectives. Photography is both the subject and the tool of his research; in his autonomous work, he explores the points of connection between photography and spirituality.
